Cisco,

Until AccuMed can be perceived by Silicon Investor to be in the diagnostic testing field, it doesn't look like we have a shot. As you
are probably aware, we are "conspicuously absent" from being included in the SI subgroup; Diagnostic Testing providers as well as the Main Group of Medicals in particular. SI doesn't recognize ACMI as a tech-stock, as of yet. I wonder why SI refuses to acknowledge and include AccuMed in that realm? Perhaps because AccuMed is a productivity/quality enhancing device manufacturer for the medical diagnostic equipment sector? Nope, that can't be it!

Sigmund I think we can look at AccuMed (as per "their numbers") to shave a minimum of $1.25M per quarter due to the announced combined reduction in AccuMed's operating expenses and R&D
reallocations. That would have knocked off almost .06 from last '97 Q-3 numbers EPS of (.14) putting that Q3-@ a (.08) deficit.
Assuming an additional $1.8M in (gross profit on sales) they would have been at break-even. That $1.8 is a big assumption.

As we can see once again, an increase in sales has to enter into the picture at some point, in spite of the other reductions and R&D cost reallocations. This past Q-4 '97 doesn't sound like it is going to particularly dazzle anyone. Some of the cost-effects of the consolidation will show up on it. They should be getting closer.

What do you see?

Frank
