Excel Switching Receives Inital Order From Brite Voice for Multi-Year Carrier Project January 22, 1998 9:24 AM EST

HYANNIS, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 22, 1998--Excel Switching Corporation (Nasdaq:XLSW), today announced that it has received an initial $2.4 million purchase order from Brite Voice Systems for the first phase of Brite's recently signed, multi-year contract with a major international long distance carrier. The contract between the carrier and Brite Voice represents the largest single contract award in Brite's history.

Brite will supply BriteESP-based advanced telecommunications products to the carrier and expects this carrier to purchase additional products and services over the next four years in accordance with traffic volume and new applications needs. Brite is a member of the Excel Partner program, and has built its platform on Excel switching technology to give wireless and wireline service providers a platform that fully supports multi-application, multimedia and multi-network capabilities.

"Our relationship with Excel has been instrumental to the success of our platform. The open architecture of the Excel system allows Brite to deliver our solutions to the market in a rapid and cost-effective manner," said Ray Naeini, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Brite's Network Products division.

The success of Brite's solutions in the carrier market is the most recent example of how Excel's integrated switching technology is providing companies with high performance, carrier class systems with the scalability to support a wide range of subscriber usage. A growing number of network service providers worldwide are incorporating Excel's Expandable Switching System (EXS), with scalability from 100 to 30,000 non-blocking ports, as their switching platform for both enhanced services and wireless and wireline infrastructure.

"We are pleased that Brite has chosen to incorporate Excel into its platform for such an important project," said Bob Madonna, President and CEO of Excel Switching Corporation. "Brite continues to be an example of how Excel partners are leveraging the industry-leading technology of our open, distributed, programmable switches to provide leadership communications solutions to customers in the network services market."
