Highlights of the News

Donald John Trump is still our president.

ITEM 1: The Daily Beast reported, "Several Democratic National Committee members have a message to their organization’s top leadership: President Trump is crushing us.

"After pledging to compete everywhere ahead of the next election, multiple DNC members told The Daily Beast they have privately sounded alarms about the organization’s strategy heading into 2020, emphasizing what they view as Chairman Tom Perez’s inability to reach swing voters in Midwestern battleground states who voted for the president. A handful of Midwestern targets were critical to Trump’s general election success in 2016.

"Jim Zogby, who co-chairs the DNC’s ethnic counsel, a group that represents people across different ethnic, racial, national origin, and religious identities, says he has been pushing Perez and other party leaders to expand its outreach to voters in the same areas that Trump successfully captured: Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and — a Democratic sore spot in post-2016 politics — Wisconsin.

"But that outreach to the committee has fallen on deaf ears."

When you think you know everything, you cannot learn a thing.

ITEM 2: Quinnipiac University Polling reported, "All Top Dems Beat Trump As Voters' Economic Outlook Dims Quinnipiac University Poll Finds; Dem Primary Stays Stable With Biden Holding The Lead."

Bloomberg News reported, "U.S. consumer confidence declined in August by less than forecast as Americans’ assessment of current conditions climbed to the highest level in almost 19 years, helped by a job market that remains robust.

"The Conference Board’s index eased to 135.1 this month from a revised 135.8, according to data from the New York-based group Tuesday that exceeded all estimates in a Bloomberg survey of economists. The gauge of views on the present situation jumped to 177.2, the highest since November 2000."

Somebody is lying.

ITEM 3: The Washington Free Beacon reported, "Thousands of would-be illegal immigrants are being returned to await asylum hearings in Mexico as part of a program the Trump administration has credited with curbing the recent wave of family migration at the southwestern border.

"The Migrant Protection Protocols — more colloquially known as the Remain in Mexico policy — are regulations issued by former secretary of homeland security Kirstjen Nielsen in December 2018. Under the MPP, a subset of individuals who claim to be seeking asylum after being apprehended at the border now must await the results of their immigration court hearings in Mexico, rather than being detained — or, more often, released on their own recognizance — in the United States.

"Asylum seekers, especially from non-contiguous countries, pose a unique challenge to the immigration system. Preexisting laws and regulations mean that asylum seekers can only be detained for so long before being released, while the large immigration court backlog essentially guarantees that these time thresholds will be passed. The result is a system of de facto catch-and-release, in which an individual can simply claim asylum at the border and then disappear into the interior while his or her case is processed."

Meanwhile with little help from Congress, the 30-foot wall rises, replacing dilapidated fences and expanding to new territory along the border. This is truly good news.

ITEM 4: Fox News reported, "The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has barred Democratic staffers from the House Oversight Committee from visiting Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facilities at the U.S.-Mexico border as part of a planned trip this week after committee staff allegedly were disruptive and refused to follow instructions during their last trip, Fox News has learned.

"Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., had sent his staff to visit border facilities for oversight inspections last week and planned to send staff again to view Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and CBP centers.

"But sources told Fox News that DHS has revoked access to CBP facilities for the upcoming visit, citing staff behavior that interfered with law enforcement operations -- including refusing to leave one site after their scheduled window, skipping some tours and being rude to officers. A DHS official said that ICE visits will still be allowed this week, but with a two-hour time limit. One of those visits took place on Tuesday."

Democrats acting like Democrats.

Cummings and his staff should visit Baltimore and oversight how that city spends the billions federal taxpayers give it and wind up with rats taking over the streets.

ITEM 5: The Daily Torch reported, "China is alleged to harvest the organs of thousands of political dissidents it keeps in concentration camps, it threatens Hong Kong and Taiwan daily, it appears to be funding and assisting the North Korean nuclear missile program and is using the hundreds of billions of dollars of trade deficits to build a first rate navy to defeat the U.S. as every year’s trade deficit pays for more than two years of China’s military spending."

Its sources are NBC, the Guardian, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and Voice of America.

Put them all together and they spell Mother of Pearls, Why Are We Doing This?

ITEM 6: Android Headlines reported, "Google is reportedly moving its manufacturing of Pixel and Nest products out of China, and into Vietnam.

"This report comes amid tensions between the US and China and its trade war that President Trump started last year. But that's not the only reason for Google to move production out of China.

"Rising labor costs in China is making Vietnam a much more enticing place to have products manufactured. As it'll be cheaper, without having to pass that cost on down to the consumer."

Plus it won't come with a tariff.

ITEM 7: Kellyanne Conway reported, "This president is taking the long view on China, because it was neglected for so many decades. Why is this president driving such a hard bargain with China? Half a trillion dollars trade deficit, forced technology transfers, intellectual property theft. It will be worth the wait."

Ah, the long view.

Which is exactly what was missing when just before the election, Obama said snottily on national TV, "At least I'll go down as a president."

Hahaha. He did. As the worst president.

ITEM 8: The Daily Mail reported, "Ilhan Omar has been accused of having a torrid affair with her married campaign strategist in newly-filed divorce papers - confirming DailyMailTV’s bombshell exclusive."

Omar responded, "I have no interest in allowing the conversation about my personal life to continue and so I have no desire to discuss it."

She is like those Fake News reporters who dox others but don't want their anti-Semitic public tweets repeated.

ITEM 9: The Washingtonian reported, "The New York Times may have bedbugs, but the Washington Post has a roach problem.

"'We have a growing pest problem,' Post director of newsroom operations Jillian S. Jarrett wrote in memo to newsroom employees August 14. 'We’ve gotten several reports of cockroaches in the newsroom.' Lest you think this is a building-wide issue, Jarrett writes, 'Facilities says that this is a newsroom problem and not happening on other floors.'"

Looks like in their cost-cutting, they cut back on exterminators. Sad.

But if Bret Stephens is the bedbug at the Times. who is the Post's roach? George Will? Jennifer Rubin? Max Boot?

ITEM 10: Tom Withers of the Associated Press, "Baker Mayfield has a new teammate. She rocks a headband, too.

"The Browns’ charismatic quarterback has entered a marketing partnership with Progressive and will star alongside his wife, Emily Wilkinson, in a national advertising campaign for the insurance giant. The ad shows the couple as new homeowners inside a football stadium.

"The 'At Home with Baker Mayfield' TV commercials are scheduled to debut on Sept. 5, three days before the Browns play their season opener against the Tennessee Titans, and run through the NFL season."

Makes sense. After all, Progressive is headquartered in Mayfield, a suburb of Cleveland.

ITEM 11: The Donald tweeted, "A sad day for the Democrats, Kirsten Gillibrand has dropped out of the Presidential Primary. I’m glad they never found out that she was the one I was really afraid of!"

Whew! That was close.

ITEM 12: Breitbart News reported, "Chanel Beauty has announced that transgender model Teddy Quinlivan has been picked as the company’s new face."

Have to keep up with Gillette.

ITEM 13: United Press International reported, "George Will just published a book, titled The Conservative Sensibility, that never mentions the word abortion."

President Donald John Trump revealed these people for the phonies they are.

ITEM 14:

QUIZ: Yesterday, I asked, "What Lovin' Spoonful song predicted Twitter 54 years ago?"

The answer is, "You Didn't Have to Be So Nice."

After all, the singer sang, "Today I said the time was right for me to follow you."
