Yah, but Sowbug, nothing says Apple has to dump FM Pro to provide a hi-end DB. In fact, I don't see how they could pull this off, since you are suggesting they make a sweetheart deal with Oracle so that they can lie in bed with MSFT to directly compete with Oracle's Mac product. More likely, Oracle would use FM Pro to force an upgrade into Oracle. This has happened in the past, and the easy low-end product disappears, and users are at a loss for something to replace it.
For example, where are the low end wordprocessors? Gone, or not worth it. OK, but we have ClarisWorks. Gee, maybe AAPL should sell that to Corel and co-develop MSWorks.
Arggh. If this ends up being the general trend, there really won't be any reason to buy an Apple machine any more. |
