NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 22, 1998--On Jan. 21, 1998, Sybase Inc. (NASDAQ: SYBS - news)
announced the postponement of its release of final results for its fiscal fourth quarter and fiscal year ending Dec. 31,
1997 due to its discovery of improper revenue recognition relating to a number of transactions by Sybase's Japanese
subsidiary. Sybase currently estimates that the impact on its revenues will be $60-65 million resulting in a fourth
quarter loss in excess of prior estimates and a restatement of revenues for the first three quarters of fiscal 1997.
