Is the US government saintly for invading Iraq?

No, but was Saddam Hussein was evil? Was any effort to remove him without major risks? What was the likely outcome of his long-term rule over Iraq?

and leaving the horrible mess they did ?

Yes, and there was a mess after World War II and the US and allies help rebuild Europe to what it is today. The Iraqis had an election in 2005 and they began to write a new constitution. These were the first free elections in Iraq’s history. They held a parliamentary election in 2010 and provincial council elections in 2013. Last year on May 12th they held parliamentary elections again. These represent a (relatively) peaceful transfer of power.

The Afghans are rebuilding their school system:
Deeply compromised by wars and conflict that have lasted for more than thirty years, Afghanistan’s education system remains fragile. Since the 2001 fall of the Taliban, however, reconstruction efforts have led to substantial progress. For example, prior to 2002, one million or fewer students, almost all of them boys, were believed to attend general schools. Per official reports, more than nine million children are now enrolled. The expansion has included girls, who were almost completely prevented from attending school under the Taliban. Today, an estimated 39 percent of students at general schools are female.
