I am back. I hope. Last few days were horrible. Been having problems with a minor dental procedure that turned out to be a nightmare. All started on July 31 2019. Things went downhill from there. Started antibiotics on the 14th after my family doc said I had a fever and lymph nodes were swollen, face was swollen and I felt rotten. She said start them now or you will die. Started antibiotics on the 14th, started to feel better a couple days later, off and on weakness and feeling good / bad all in the same day.
Things got really bad on the last week of August. The last dentist I seen said you don’t need a dentist anymore, you need a doctor. Friday I went to a doctor he put me on Aleve, didn’t do anything, next day I seen another doc she said use heat. That was Saturday the 31 of Aug. I felt good in the morning but later in the day felt ill and the swelling on my face started to get worse. That night it kept getting worse. I called Healthlink, a service we have in Alberta where you talk to registered nurses, they have your medical history and meds on file. She told me I need to be in the ER, she kept asking me how is your breathing and swallowing. She said are you going to the ER? I said tomorrow, she said thats your choice, but I recommend you go to the ER now.
Then my guardian angel on SI sent me an email asking how I was doing. I told him and he too said go to the ER. I said tomorrow, he said infections can run away fast, but it was my decision. Later that night the swelling started getting worse every hour. At 12:30 am I looked in the mirror and could not believe how much I swelled up and it was in my neck as well. I called 911, took me to the hospital, got in fairly quick but took forever to see a doctor. They started an IV line and the nurse kept checking in on me, and I told her the pain spreading to my neck. Seen a doc around 5 am, started me on IV antibiotics, I left at 7 am and was told to return the next day for more. After that I was told to go to the Infectious Disease Unit at the hospital, that was yesterday, received my last dose of IV antibiotics after seeing a specialist in infections. They gave me a prescription for high dose oral antibiotics, 2 different ones. I am on them till Sunday, Monday I go back to see if more intervention is needed.
Yesterday after getting back from the hospital I was extremely weak and dizzy, I could not drive, had to use taxis but after eating supper my strength came back. So as of today I feel a lot better, swelling has gone down about 70%, pain has subsided a lot and am ready to start working again. Keeping my fingers crossed that the infection is wiped out by these antibiotics. Down around 20 pounds now since this happened on the 31s of July. Today I am having a vanilla milkshake, first time in 10 years. I need the calories and a treat for going though hell. I want to that all who were concerned about my well being, good wishes and those who donated financially. That helped out big time. I want to thank my guardian angel on SI, you know who you are, for financial support, checking in on me by email on a regular basis and telling me to get to the ER on Saturday night. Also for saying I’m sorry I’m not closer, or I could bring you milkshakes or chicken soup or something.
I am so happy to be a part of this great community. What a great bunch of people we have here.
Once again a big thank you to everyone.
SI Ron
EDIT: I wrote this 2 hours ago, felt really good, just ate and now weak and dizzy again, I will take it slow until I fully recover. |
