The Fed is the CAUSE of the instability. That's what people don't get. The can't predict the future, but they pretend they can and then they take actions that distort the economy, including actions that mute price discovery and rebalancing within the economy. Then those deformations create bubbles in some assets and under allocations of capital to other areas of the economy. Then they claim they can't see any bubbles and there's no inflation, when any common person can see both everywhere. Then they give more heroin to the heroin addict claiming that will cure the addict.

The bottom line is that Capitalism works, if you let it. Without the Fed, we would not have this massive debt and deficits, because the price of new debt would be way too high, based on supply and demand, risk and reward. So Congress would have to increase taxes or cut spending to run the government or they'd get kicked out of office. Instead, the Fed has become the drug pusher and the cancerous tumor that has metastasized and not only ensured the destruction of Capitalism in this country, but also the re-introduction of Socialism into this country, because monetary policy is inextricably tied with economics and economics is inextricably tied with politics.

There is no reason we can not live without the Fed. We've just forgotten how to live free and how to keep the parasites at bay from stealing everything we've all worked so hard for.

So to answer your question. Kill the Fed and replace it with nothing. Let currencies and interest rates float free based on supply and demand and risk and reward. Then people with capital to their names will allocate that capital to currencies that hold their value and to companies and projects that provide an appropriate return after accounting for discount rates that are properly calculated through Capitalistic market mechanisms instead of by 13 Fed bankers who are trying to manipulate the price of everything in the whole world, like the good little Communist Central Planners that they are.
