As mentioned before I watch mostly foreign films, even bad ones if they have interesting anthropological information. I am very heartened by what I see. Writers and directors of these dramas, around the world, and from countries one might not expect to produce many films, are working very hard to improve humanity and doing a great job by exposing the terrible injustices still going on in the world due to primitive norms and mores.

The number one subject is easily about the subjugation and brutalization of women, which is pervasive, even in modern countries like South Korea, but it is especially bad in traditional third world countries like India and Pakistan. But the range of topics include homophobia, caste systems and even banal shallow living.

One that I just watched and enjoyed so much was "Saavat", an Indian film about single women being accused by people as being witches and then preyed upon and often killed. It is a detective story and not very well done and the acting is pretty bad, but it held my interest to the end and was nice to see that problem being exposed which was clearly the directors intent. .

People are being killed every year in a poor village and the smart FEMALE detective intends to find out why. This film is a perfect example of how the "new age" film makers are making the world a better place to be by exposing the terrible things cultures have done over millennia that are still going on in counties that have not yet caught up with modern sensitivities.

Things are getting better around the world because of these brave film makers.
