I realize this is not a democracy, but it is a civil place (mostly) despite different viewpoints, disagreements, strongly held opinions, etc.
You should not tolerate vicious personal attacks. I know you don't like to use the ban button, but I think rara avis richly deserves it. He's way off the reservation.
You'll recall that he took a swipe at me, but it didn't really bother me. I put it down to just another intolerant guy with issues who vents at the keyboard. But the attack on you was more than that.
I was surprised to learn that you are right-wing. LOL!
I am admittedly right-wing for the most part, with some lefty notions on specific issues. If you are indeed right-wing, well, you are simply not right-wing enough. If you care for it, I can offer free indoctrination, secret handshakes included. LOL!
