They should get some of their own...and like I said, it is not the lack of electricity that is the problem. It is the lack of law and order. Even in the apocalyptic zombie world of Walking Dead, it is not the lack of tech or even the zombies that are the worst problem - it is the lack of order.

If the story needs suspense and thrill, it should focus on that rather than no tech. The no electricity part is just a tool to justify the chaos.
