BTW I had a colonoscopy yesterday...it has been 9 years since my last one.... I have had cancer 20 years ago and my mother died of colon cancer. (I had cancer of the appendix)

In Alberta and I think in all Canada this test is free. It takes 3 months to get the appointment but there is no rush. The procedure has improved a lot since I had the last one (this is my 4th in 15 years).

For those that have never had one and you are over 55 years old you should get your doctor to arrange for one. My mother would be alive today if she had one 10 years before her death @ 76 years old...she never knew she had a cancer in her large intestine until it was too late and the cancer penetrated her intestine. Colon cancer is 90+% treatable if it is caught before it penetrates the large intestine... it is 100% fatal otherwise.

The procedure has improved by using a new purgative, Colyte.was pretty drinkable when ice cold. You need to have your intestines squeaky clean, It is not as aggressive as the sodium citrate I took 9 years ago was like an atomic bomb going off in your stomach.

The inspection takes only 30 minutes once they set you up. You don't have to be conscious for the test, they can put you under and then the discomfort is minimum and it seems over in a minute. If there are any polyps in your system they will remove them (I had 2 this time) and take them for testing...not all have cancerous potential but they could be.

The facility we have in Calgary is like a colonoscopy factory...very efficient.

I will be scheduled 3-5 years from now for another one depending on the biopsy of the two they took... But I feel great and have the knowledge that I will be cancer free down there.

I highly recommend this procedure if you are over 55.... it could save your life!
