If true, this reminds me a lot of the Watergate break in. In both cases, it is an attempt to gin up dirt on an opponent. In both cases, even if successful, it does nothing to improve the candidate's position. In the case of Nixon, he pretty much had a lock on the presidency. In Trump's case, Biden is unlikely to be the candidate for a number of reasons. In both cases, the potential for blow back is enormous because it is going to come out sooner or later.

In other words, it is stupid,.

Edit: the coverup just magnifies the problem.
