Just plain old smart as measured by the Stanford Binet. All caused by the difference in education. 120 years ago the average person had a forth grade education and today half go to college.

According to James Flynn -see 18 minute Ted talk video below- a New Zealand experimental psychologist people back then were operating at about a 70 IQ by present standards and were primarily "concrete thinkers"

Today the "kids" are operating at about a 130 IQ relative to them and are abstract thinkers. We went from borderline mentally challenged to borderline genius by education.

We are hard wired to think concretely like dogs, cats and Republicans-lol. But we are capable of abstract thinking e.g. theory of relativity.

People and cultures, in the aggregate, are much smarter than they were 100 years ago.
Really? Maybe more educated but smarter???

Every time I see the term "smart" I think of "Street smart" and I see little evidence of that especially in the younger generations except maybe in stock traders, drug dealers and in a vast majority of politicians of all ages.
