Agreed, "circling" is much too broad a term to describe the path of electrons. It was OK when I was in high school, but that was a long time ago.

If I understand correctly, the current consensus is that electrons follow a path that describes a shape that is determined by the composition of the nucleus.

I believe that shape is still referred to as an "orbital", though, so I'm still comfortable referring to electrons as "orbiting" the nucleus, even though the orbital path is not the elliptic planetary orbit most of us are familiar with.

If some or all of that is not correct, please don't hesitate to correct me.

A simulation that has enough awareness to defend itself by allowing itself to be proven non-existent will be difficult to discover.
