Tenchu's Thoughts: IMPEACH THE MOTHAFUCKA!
At this point, the Democrats have no choice but to impeach Donald Trump.
Will that remove him from office? Of course not.
Will it backfire on them? You betcha.
Couldn't they just formally censure him? Nope, and I'll explain why.
From day one of the current session of Congress, it was obvious that the Democrats wanted to impeach Trump and stage a virtual coup d'etat. Even Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who is part of the so-called "squad" led by Alexandria Occasional-Cortex, promised her son and her constituents that "we gonna impeach the mothafucka." Same with Maxine Waters, Jerry Nadler, and a sizable chunk of the Democratic Party.
There was just one problem. Despite the "blue wave" sweeping the House, it didn't work in the Senate. And as anyone who lived through Bill Clinton's impeachment can tell you, the House can impeach, but only the Senate can remove a president from office.
So the Democrats were in a bind. They just can't impeach Trump for the sake of impeaching him, because that would be utterly childish and a blatant abuse of power. Trump would remain in power, and his personna would only grow.
Instead, they needed evidence to show that Trump actually broke the law and forsook his oath to defend the Constitution. That's why they laid their hopes upon Robert Mueller, but as we all know, that turned out to be the mother of all nothingburgers.
Enter this latest Ukraine scandal. It does show that the president likely engaged in conduct that violated the spirit of the law, if not the letter. Forget the fact that it would hurt Joe Biden's campaign more than Trump's, because we all know that the Democrats are more than willing to throw their own under the bus. (Plus it is my belief that the sooner Biden falls from grace, the better it will be for the Democrats, because he WILL lose to Trump.)
So now the Democrats have to say something, because they can't just let Trump get away with this unanswered. Otherwise they will have betrayed their party base, who elected them for one purpose and one purpose only, which is to STOP TRUMP.
Could the Democrats just formally censure the president? I don't think so. That would be seen as too weak. That's no different than just doing nothing about it, because censures don't carry much weight.
But impeachment has been used in the past as the strongest form of censure by Congress. I still remember when Bill Clinton was impeached. "Impeach, but don't remove" was the theme by several Republicans. They knew that if they removed Clinton from office, the voters would see that as a blatant power-grab. And for what? "Lying about a blowjob?" (Of course, it was actually perjury and obstruction of justice, but many people did really think it was "lying about a blowjob," and that was probably because of the salacious details of the Lewinsky scandal, which the media played up to no limit.)
That, combined with incredible pressure from the leftist base, is forcing the hand of the Democrats. They will impeach. And they need to, or else they'll end up severely discouraging their supporters.
Like I said, will it remove Trump from office? Nope.
Will it backfire on them? You betcha.
But the Democrats need to cash in their chips now, or else they'll end up in the red. So go ahead, Dems. IMPEACH THE MOTHAFUCKA!
