9/27/2019 Contest update Unfortunately, no whistleblower (or shofarblower, for that matter) had alerted biotech investors that their portfolios were about to be decimated by a tsunami of selling this week. Here are the unimpeachable numbing numbers: At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 3.47% YTD (vs. up 12.75% a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 2.42% YTD (vs. up 8.84% a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 6.02% YTD (vs. up 14.66% a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 19.66% YTD (vs. up 22.34% YTD a week ago). BULBA’s portfolio was hit hard but held on to the Contest lead with a 75.97% YTD gain. ANDRE’s portfolio, up 45.46% YTD and ARTHUR’s portfolio, up 39.81% YTD, remained in second and third place. At Friday's close, just 22 of the 39 Contest portfolios were in the green, while 20 were beating the NBI and 18 were beating the SPSIBI. The 167 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 7.39% and a median YTD gain of a mere .42%. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.) Portfolio adjustments: None. (All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.) I’ll try to post the Q3 summary data following Monday’s close. Enjoy a safe and relaxing first fall weekend biotechies! Best wishes for a sweet 5780 to those celebrating Rosh Hashana! Peace & good health, Bulba
