Great thinking, Bob. Last time we spoke about it, I went looking for a way to incorporate these ideas into my momentum / trend following systems. That wasn’t the first time I tried that. In the end, individual names are too volatile, very hard to find rules that would work with them, and when something seems to work - there is no certainty that it’s not simply due to random chance.

What I did find is that XLE may work for me. It’s a lot smoother. Its heavy on a few of the big names - XOM and CVX make up 45% of the ETF. So, this may work. It yields about 3 3/4%, which nice.

Thanks for sharing!
