Visio Corporation Announces First Quarter Fiscal 1998 Results
SEATTLE, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Visio Corporation (Nasdaq: VSIO - news) today reported results for the first quarter of fiscal year 1998. Revenues for the quarter ended December 31, 1997 were $37.0 million, a 95 percent increase over first quarter fiscal 1997 revenues of $19.0 million. Net income was $8.0 million and diluted earnings per share were $0.26, compared to net income of $4.4 million and diluted earnings per share of $0.15 for the first quarter of fiscal 1997.
''During the December quarter we continued the rollout of our 5.0 upgrade throughout Europe and the Asia Pacific region,'' said Jeremy Jaech, president and CEO of Visio Corp. ''We have been rewarded with strong demand for our products in those markets driven to a large extent by the introduction of Visio(R) Professional. European revenue grew over 100% year over year, and Asia Pacific revenue increased 82% despite the economic challenges in that region.''
Visio Professional continued to show strong growth, generating $16.0 million in revenues in the first quarter of fiscal 1998, a 47% increase from the September 1997 quarter and representing 43% of total revenues. Total international revenues of $16.0 million for the period represented 43% of total revenues, an all time high. Visio released additional localized language versions of its 5.0 products in Dutch, Swedish, and Kanji. Visio's installed base now exceeds 1.8 million users.
''Our corporate sales team is making a strong impact on the business with volume licensing revenues increasing to $6.9 million, and contributing 19% of total revenues,'' said Jaech.
