10/4/2019 Contest update
It would be wrong to blame Trump for biotech stocks’ Friday weakness relative to the broad market, with the smaller-cap biotech index up just .22% while the Nasdaq composite was up 1.40%. But Trump’s blaming the pharmaceutical industry for pushing his impeachment didn’t help.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 2.22% YTD (vs. up 3.47% a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 2.83% YTD (vs. up 2.42% a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 6.67% YTD (vs. up 6.02% a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 20.30% YTD (vs. up 19.66% YTD a week ago).
BULBA’s portfolio continued as Contest leader with a 74.38% YTD gain. ARTHUR’s portfolio, up 43.50% YTD, edged into second place while ANDRE’s portfolio, up 42.74% YTD, slipped to third place.
At Friday's close, 23 of the 39 Contest portfolios were in the green, while 18 were beating the NBI and 15 were beating the SPSIBI.
The 167 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 6.87% and, back in negative territory, a median YTD loss of -2.13%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a safe and relaxing first October weekend biotechies!
And to those observing Yom Kippur best wishes for an easy fast.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
