OK, here's what needs to happen:
GPGI needs to engender some friendly co-opetition between and amongst their various refiners. Let's call it "co-operative competition" if you will. Here's one possible scenario:
Every 3 months, GPGI sends a "Control Batch" of leachate concentrate to each of their refiners. The refiners all compete to see who can get the most "goodies" out of their "Control Batch". The winner would get a larger share of the bulk quantities to refine for the next 3 months. Since at some point GPGI should be producing enough bulk concentrate to keep all these refiners busy as long-tailed cats in a room full of rocking chairs, after 3 months the winner of the last competition would license their "winning secret" to the others, so they could all be playing leap-frog and catch-up with each other, all at the same time.
As we've all watched the DD saga unfold, one fact keeps standing out, at least to me, and it is: There's enough to be had for all concerned and none of these companies - GPGI, Maxam, Naxos, anybody - has to proceed on some "beggar-thy-neighbour" business plan in order to succeed. Neither, then, should any of the refiners who have an interest in doing business with any of the DD's. They should compete, yes, that's how progress is made; but they should take a long, serious look at how sharing their respective insights can help all of them. Co-operation can be a profit centre, too. |
