Just my $.02 worth.

BJS WHOLESALE CLUB INC and WAL MART STORES's Sam's Club are really the only large wholesale clubs that I know of, and I believe that BJ's is having some troubles (but I could be wrong about that).

DAYTON HUDSON CORP's Target Stores, KMart, Sears and any general merchandise store maybe are close, but I don't see any of them getting their costs down as low as Costco can keep them.

DOLLAR GENERAL and FAMILY DOLLAR STORES and others of their ilk may have low prices but the selection is less.

So, as far as I'm concerned, Costco is pretty much alone, now that it and PriceCo are one again. ('Again' from the standpoint that the President and CEO of Costco are ex-PriceCo people.)
