In case people are wondering why Wharfie isn't posting today, here might be the reason:

More than 1 million in California are without power to curb wildfire risk; more outages coming

Short story: PG&E, which is the utility that provides electricity to most of Northern California, has some rather old infrastructure. Sparking from utility wires was found to have caused some significant wildfires last year. As a result, PG&E was legally held liable for billions of dollars in damage.

So to avoid legal liability, PG&E is shutting down power to customers in heavily wooded areas. Cause you know, it's a lot easier than actually fixing their infrastructure, which to be fair will take a lot of time.

Gotta love the People's Republic of California. Our electric service is just as reliable as that of a communist country like North Korea or Venezuela.
