Electrical devices on standby, e.g. TV sets which aren't switched off completely but are ready to switched on by a remote control.

Meanwhile I have dug up a detailed report:

Surprise: Majority of BTC Energy Sourced from Hydro / Wind / Solar
medium.com

The URL of the full text of the report: coinshares.co.uk

Yearly Bitcoin mining power consumption is around 41 TWh, renewable share around 74%.
Yearly worldwide electricity consumption 2017 was 21 372 TWh so Bitcoin mining consumes 0.2% of electricity.

Another comparison: the equivalent of about 300 TWh/year is wasted in US traffic jams.
