I doubt this given that much of it is done in places like China. Who knows the source?

But regardless, it doesn't really matter. Bitcoin mining using solar power still uses up solar power that would be available for other uses if not for the bitcoin mining.

But what the heck, even if bitcoin mining serves no purpose, lots of other things we do are useless as well. Like posting on SI or playing games.
