You can buy a pocket projector to replace your monitor (within reason). There have also been systems around for years and that combine a tiny projector and camera as replacement for screen and keyboard; the projector displays a keyboard on your desk and the camera sees which "keys" you've pressed.

It will never be the same. Heck, I am still to find a keyboard that is as good as my original IBM keyboard (my current TTesport by Thermalake comes close). But the point is will the positives outweigh the shortcomings.

It is within the current technology to match a powerful pocket projector with a smart phone and create an interactive whiteboard for a meeting/presentation and/or have it double as a touch screen display. Many people will accept that in lieu of the portability and immediate access to their data.
