Market Basket is the best supermarket chain in the world. I had not heard of them but came across them a couple of months ago while visiting Portland, Maine (staying at Old Orchard Beach).

Whole Foods has more upmarket good stuff, Trader Joe's is pretty good for some things. But on price, range, quality, presentation, staff, parking, space, Market Basket are world champions for regular humans.

On profitability they do okay too. But they had a management and ownership civil war a few years ago. Recovered.

Aldi is better on price but for a limited range. Vons has had its day.

I love supermarkets. Hmmmm wonder if Loblaws is still going ( our Canada grocer in the mid 1970s).
