"They'll be able to interact with our Q(TM) phone and experience wireless Internet access, as well as the phone's unique features and benefits that can be tailored to best serve any lifestyle -- from the general consumer to the on-the-go professional."

Their targeted consumer is unaware and confused. And the marketplace is only going to get more confusing. Since my last post, I've seen three (semi-corny) Samsung Olympic wireless ads here in a South Carolina hotel room. When one thinks of effective branding, consider what Coca-Cola and Intel accomplished. In the above statement (taken out of context), the only targeted consumer is the on-the-go professional, and even that target needs refinement. But, who is the general consumer? General consumers have specific needs. Why does the "general" consumer use a cellular phone? One answer I hear is "for an emergency", so tell me why I need a Q phone? Sure, maybe trying one makes a difference in converting prospects, but not everyone understands the potential through the current Qualcomm advertising approach.

Maybe Qualcomm will steal the advertising show at the SuperBowl. But it's got to win many more major battles to keep building the momentum in this market segment.
