I am always puzzled by the hatred of Sanders for two primary reasons: I would guess his supporters are and have been among the best and brightest minds in the country. And the best and the brightest are seldom more foolish than others. You know what, Koan, it is no wonder that you are "puzzled". I don't doubt that his supporters believe themselves to be "among the best and brightest minds in the country". The problem is, they aren't. The very clause "the best and brightest minds in the country" is meaningless. There are many different kinds of intelligence as well as many different kinds of stupidity. And quite a few people are intelligent in some ways and stupid in others. In fact, many people are like this. Bernie is one of them. So are many of his followers. A president from the past who was like that was John Quincy Adams. He was admirable in many ways. But although he spent many years in the House, he never got anything done. He was, in the words of Kennedy and Sorenson, "a minority of one".
