10/18/2019 Contest update
Biotech stocks and Contest portfolios, in particular, had a decent week for a change, nicely outperforming the broad market.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 6.57% YTD (vs. up 1.27% a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 5.59% YTD (vs. up 3.51% a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 9.14% YTD (vs. up 6.96% a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 21.92% YTD (vs. up 21.43% YTD a week ago).
As is always the case for those who boast of “unmatched wisdom,” Bulba has been humbled. Assailed by short-sellers and jinxed by RKRW, Bulba’s portfolio is now in the sights of a pack of challengers. Although Bulba’s portfolio, up 63.23% YTD, remains in first place, its lead is clearly threatened. Closing in is OHMS’s portfolio which, electrified by buyout bid for ACHN, leaped into second place with a 59.37% YTD gain. Also a potential contender and moving into third place is HOOD’s portfolio, with a 53.12% YTD gain.
At Friday's close, 27 of the 39 Contest portfolios were in the green, while 21 were beating the NBI and 16 were beating the SPSIBI.
The 167 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 10.18% and a median YTD loss of -5.14%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a safe and relaxing fall weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
