We are none of us angels. I'm sure your daughters are very grateful for the way you raised them. I didn't spank my kids and they all turned out well. I might have slapped a hand away from a light socket, or something like that, but never used violence as punishment. For punishment I tried to teach them to reflect on what they'd done and why it wasn't the right thing to do. Did a lot of counting to 10, myself. My mother was abusive, but I was not genetically related to her, so that gave me a nice emotional distance from her abuse. And whether it's genetics or just luck, I'm nothing like her as a parent- something I will forever be grateful for.
