IMHO....there is no right or wrong way to punish a child. All kids are different, and respond to conditions differently. My mom could stop me in my tracks and make me wonder WTF did I just do with just a look. What I HATED even more was when she would give me the silent treatment if I acted up. My wife and I have found that the silent treatment worked quite well on our own kids also, but they responded to it differently. It bothered my son (like me) a lot more when we wouldn't talk to him than it did our daughter.
