I would never replace one Continental tire with one Michelin tire on my car because the Michelin rubber and tire is harder. That one tire makes the car difficult to handle to the point of being less safe. Four Michelin tires gave me such a rough ride and handling so different - and Michelin tires so hard wearing that I replaced them long before they wore out because they made me dislike driving the car.

If I lived in a country where the freeways had no speed limit, I would find it not just unacceptable for me to mix tires, but also unacceptable for anyone else to be allowed to mix-and-match tires. In Mexico this sort of make-do is very common and so very few things work right. But I've never found anyplace in Mexico where I can drive faster than 50 mph.

Alaska Airlines found the price of a Boeing jack-screw controlling the rudder too costly so they made their own jack screws and killed all 88 people on the flight. - en.wikipedia.org

In a poor nation like Indonesia this sort of shit goes on all the time and their airlines are the most dangerous in the world. If you need he cheapest possible ticket and your life is cheap, Garuda was your airline until they had to change because they were banned from flying internationally.

The auto industry is very influential in German so they approach auto maintenance like aircraft maintenance. very few ten year old cars pass the safety inspection, so Germans buy a new car providing German jobs. Their old car is typically sold in the Middle East or Africa where there a no autobahns.

Compared with the US, Germany is far more strict with auto maintenance, but I can't drive at 160 mph here, and Australians drive on the other side of the road.

Although the rules are different between these nations, I've found it easy to adapt to the different circumstances, even if it were for the rest of my life. These are not big things to me. Adapting to the ways of a less wealthy nation is much more uncomfortable for me to deal with as I can't get what I want because everyone has far lower expectations..
