The thing is, what the Chancellor of Germany, back in 1939 was really after was to defeat COMMUNISM and gain control of Russia's southern oil fields.

And Communism, at that time was Russia. But Germany didn't want to launch an attack against Russia if she could be attacked from the West.

So what the Germans did was to draw up a Non-Aggression Pact with Stalin, which gave the Russians a (false) sense of security into believing that they were not a target for the Germans. As a result they did nothing to build up their military.

The Germans then used their superior military against the likes of France and other western European countries and within a relatively short period had overrun them all.

Once the West was under their control, the German Chancellor tore up the "treaty" with Russia and TURNED EAST and went after their real enemy who had not adequately prepared for such an eventuality.

Unfortunately for the Germans, Russia is a VERY BIG country, and the further the Germans advanced the longer became their supply lines.

And then came the snow and the ice of winter.

And then they had to take Stalingrad. But they made the mistake of bombing the hell out of the city and turning most of the city into piles of rubble. That gave the Russians the cover they needed to fight a "guerrilla type" of warfare and made the advancement of the German military extremely difficult and time consuming.

And TIME was what was important for the Russians because they could then build up their strategic military equipment, especially their tanks and Katyushka rocket launchers, and eventually strike back hard against the depleting German military ......
