If there was to be separation. The west would be a new country it could and would have it's own constitution where the Fed sector of the country Could & would over rule state or provincial interest should it tend to block or be disingenuous the common good of the of the combined states.

The Constitution as we know it presently with all it's hangups & inadequacies perhaps may no longer exist.

The present individuality of province does not even allow for free trade between the participants which make up Canada. There is freer trade with many foreign countries than there is between Provinces. To me that does not sound like an actual country which is supposed to work for the common good of all , in the first place. So what is there to really protect ?
