This Ted Talk by physicist David Mackay is a compelling quantification of the absurdity of believing PV and Wind mills can in any way replace any meaningful percent of the power provided by Fossil fuels. It is done using arithmetic and simple graphs showing the square thousands of miles to do it. This is just generation, not storage.
