re "interior Alaska was a grassland refuge habitat for a number of plant and animal species during the maximum glaciation."
True. Interior Alaska is generally the area north of the Alaska Range and South of the Brooks Range. During the Ice Age it was a cold, dry habitat lacking enough moisture to support glaciation. It was connected to and part of the Mammoth steppe, a zone wrapping around the top of Eurasia, across Beringia, and into North America.
