Ovintiv (OVV-T) @CautiousNow The shift of the $ECA head office to the US, the desire to increase US investment in the company and the change in name shouldn't come as a surprise. The writing was on the wall for some time with the significant increase in the importance of its US portfolio relative to Canada, the increased presence of senior management in the US and the continued weakness of the price for Canadian natural gas. (ECA's Cdn portfolio is heavily weighted to liquids rich gas, rather than oil.) The timing does send a political message, though, whether it was intentional or not. Hate the name. Hard to believe they probably paid a branding firm to come up with a name that is so hard to remember and spell. Feel for the shareholders and the pending consolidation, so hope they have a lot of newsflow and promotion to try to mitigate the slide in price that normally follows a consolidation. ceo.ca EnCana (ECA)
