"Don’t trust, just verify. The inclination to trust and the presumption of innocence gives the fraudsters the initial benefit of any doubt while they are free to plan and execute their crimes." - Sam Antar, speaking to Marketwatch about his role in the Crazy Eddie fraud.

That reminds me of each new CEO that pops up in all of these penny stock scams. The old CEO finally loses credibility and 'pop', up comes a new CEO who is immediately heralded by investors as an honest, capable person who knows how to get things done. Then after that CEO loses credibility another 'pop' and full credibility is once again restored.

It's only once the swindlers have exhausted every avenue and when even the most gullible of investors starts to become skeptical that it's time to sell controlling interest in the company to a brand new swindler with a brand new story. I've seen that take up to twenty years, though. Penny stock investors often say they will never sell their shares and they really mean it...much to the glee of the swindlers who then ride those investors for years or even decades while the investors blame market makers, short sellers and anyone else except the swindler himself.
