I actually think NNVC was founded to do both:
  1. bring the most revolutionary medical discovery since penicillin to market
  2. make the founders rich
But not necessarily in that order of priority. (And, you might notice, there is no mention of rewarding the common shareholders if #1 is successful...not really much of a consideration on that matter.)

And, as it turns out, they were a lot better at #2 than they were at #1. Their efforts at #2 actually severely undermined their efforts at #1. Funny thing...when sophisticated investors see a really fecal deal focused on #1 rather than rewarding the shareholders, working capital suddenly becomes difficult and expensive to obtain.
