You were probably more optimistic back then.. There were a heck of a lot more lol's in your posts :)

to the bedrock of the Republican party they don't believe in "democracy". Yes.. I know what you mean.. there is still a largely hard line conservative groundswell intoning it's not a democracy .. it's a republic.. (Maher's comments touch tangentially but not explicitly on that) ..

Well (OK this may pi$$ off some of you guys :( ) but the founding fathers did not really want a democracy.. in fact it was anathema to most..We the people was largely a group of white land and slave owners... they really wanted an oligarchy.. to raise an army they needed the small land owners to be ready to lay down their lives and hence the franchise was the carrot... They did a good job.. but now you do have have democracy... the two party system abets the ideal they wanted.. granted he Senate became elected by the people although that was not how it was originally... Having the Prez as the executive further distributes power and gets in the way of getting things done.. In our parliamentary system (yes it is lacking also) the executive is a figurehead.. Gov General/Queen pick'em...

You guys have been fighting your way to a true democracy for over two centuries ... it's coming along :)) In fact you may be gaining on us up here... we are not there either... by any stretch...

And if I drive you nuts, put me on ignore :)>!.. Never.. you are too valuable to ignore.. and I rarely use that feature... and even when I do.. it's a penalty box.. like in hockey :)) using ignore is a huge sign of weakness IMO :)) I would just not post to you.. Hours are like diamonds and we are not getting younger... The fact that I post to you ,, challenge you.. without getting all Formerly Advanced Micro Devices on you is because I respect your opinion.. So why the heck would I put you on ignore... :))

Have a great weekend..
Blackie

EDIT.. BTW.. I notice I started posting to you and elpolvo in the same year.. 2005 :))
Lately, it occurs to me
What a long, strange trip it's been
