Adrain,

"What is hurting AMD is the yield issue, something that is correctible."

Yeah, right. AMD's advanced fabrication process is too way ahead of its time. The yield is a result of implementation on an untried technology. Tell me. If NASA decided to build a spaceship to explore Alpha Centaruri today and, of course, ran into problems because of obvious technical difficulties, would this something be correctable?

"[K6 family] die sizes are smaller than the corresponding Intel products because AMD uses a 5-layer CMOS process vs. Intel's 4 layers."

From last year's experience, we did learn that:

- Intel's bigger die size having higher yield
- AMD's extra layer of metal having lower yield

"There is nothing to stop them from partnering with someone like Texas Instruments if the K6 gains widespread acceptance and when AMD capacity becomes limited."

By that time, P-II would be dominating. The world would be migrating to P-II. And nobody would want to hold on to something that is soon-to-be obsolete.

John.
