When Pepsi was made decades ago, thousands of workers were needed. There were Pepsi plants in every major city, each employing their own team of workers and managers.Today, massive factories using machines churn out billions of dollars of Pepsi. Billions of dollars of wealth are being created by machines. Where does the wealth created by machines go? Most of it goes to investors. Can anyone honestly say this is the best use of limited resources?So the guy who used to make Pepsi doesn't have a job and the guy who's never worked a day in his life (the ultra rich) get the vast majority of the wealth. OK. I like that example. Pepsi had around 16,000 employees when they got started in 1965. Today, they have around 263,000. Despite all the automation of those machines, Pepsi has added tremendous value, not just to shareholders, but to all the employees who've worked with them over all those years. Capitalism is like that. It lifts all boats. Machines sometimes replace humans, but more often than not, they work alongside humans and make humans more productive. The left are embracing luddite thinking in their fear mongering about progress and automation.
So I have proven that your own example was based on false assumptions and was factually incorrect. Pepsi increased their number of employees by 247,000 people even as they used a lot of new automation techniques.
I used to work with A.I. and was an investor in a start up built on A.I., where my friend was the founder and inventor of the tech. We both made a lot of money together. In every instance we used A.I., we increased outcomes for every business we helped with it. That improved the business outcomes of our customers, which were other businesses, and their customers, which were other people who found their lives improved. That company ended up employing thousands of workers and most of their clients were able to grow faster as a result of that A.I.
The fact is that you simply don't know what you are talking about. A.I. is a tool, just like everything else. What do you want, for all of us to go back to using an Abacus instead of a Spreadsheet or Data Science? Everything about your world is better because of science, technology, and automation. |
