Is Alexander Vindman an example of what Trump described as “never Trump human scum”?
Eleanor Lang, Voted in every election since I turned 18. Thinks it's a civic responsibility.
No. But before I answer this, I want to address the elephant in the room. As it were.
Disagreeing with a president is not unpatriotic. Donald Trump would make any disagreement with him, any disloyalty to him, into a punishable offense. Donald Trump is not the state; this is still a democracy. He would make anyone who suggests a different policy, or, in fact, who has one, to be “human scum.”
Donald Trump neither understands nor wants democracy. Fealty to ruler (which Trump clearly wants to be) over country is a dictatorship. Every elected official in this country, including Donald Trump, has taken an oath to uphold the constitution, and insisting on personality loyalty over that oath forces career public servants and elected officials into an untenable position.
Now. Alexander Vindman is a career soldier. He is a patriot, a Purple Heart recipient, and has served this country, with honor, for twenty years, regardless of the party of the president, and his own and unknown party affiliation. Because that’s the job. To serve this country. This Country. Neither Alexander Vindman nor any of the people serving in the military, the state department, the judiciary, or the legislature are the personal servants of the president, any president. They serve this country.
Alexander Vindman is the opposite of “never Trump human scum,” although there are plenty of examples of human scum on the pro Trump side.
Vindman is the opposite of Trump. Vindman is a patriot who puts his country's interests first. |
