Have you ever attended a Trump rally in person? What was the crowd like?

Dee Beshar

Ever been to a Klan rally?.. That's exactly what it was like. I attended one out of sheer curiosity.. Like when you see an awful car crash ..you're repulsed but can't quite look away .

I witnessed a throng of hyper angry white male faces in what can only be described as an orgasmic frenzy of racial hatred. Yes there were a few Hispanics and a few People of Color there..and I think the only thing that saved them from being attacked was they had on the red maga hats.

I struck up a conversation w/ a young Black man (wearing a maga hat) who admitted he was being “compensated” to be there… as was his friend. I inquired if he was there for the “optics” and he shrugged.. confirming what I assumed to be true.

The place was pretty much wall to wall with some really seedy criminal looking individuals that can only be described as neo/ klan - alt klan…replete w/ racist tatts, confederate patches, & among them the more clean cut albeit sinister looking “tiki torch” types.- Everything but the hoods & sheets.

It was so openly repugnant I would say even George Wallace would wince.. I had no doubt that the next trump inspired terrorist could very well be lurking in this crowd.

Then I saw 2 young Black women without MAGA hats. They looked absolutely terrified, avoiding eye contact with anyone. I kept an eye on them because I feared for their safety as these women obviously had ventured into a war zone.

The n-word was being thrown around quite openly with a cacophony of other racists epithets I can't even repeat… chanted w/ menacing ferocity every time “grand wizard trump” riled them up on cue.

When Rep. Maxine Waters name was mentioned, I saw “Hitler salutes” & heard things shouted out so gruesomely racist, toxic and disgusting ..it would make a common bigot grimace..I looked around at the twisted angry faces thinking about the ironic slogan that this venomous, - horror show of hate - in any way….”makes America great”..

I saw first hand how easy it was to vilify “the other” & radicalize young white males into circa 1940 era white racist/terrorism mindset. The parallels were stark in how Bin Laden also had recruited legions of young men into the Taliban to prepare for 9/11.

It was at that moment I got at real time glimpse of what it must have been like for Black Americans back in 1950 surrounded by a frenzy of feral white lynch mobs, imagining the sheer utter terror they had endured …then feeling a visceral disgust at the realization that this ugliness has resurrected in my country again in 2019 no less.
