So first of all, there is a big difference between weather (local and short term) and climate (global and long term). About 25 years ago I remember having snow in July in Toronto (it was mid day light flurries). That did not mean that a new ice age is upon us and the global warming trend continued.

That said, I am surprised you are implying that it absolutely has not been the warmest October you have seen in Toronto. With humidex we actually went above 30.

You see that most days were above or near the historical highs.

As to the gardening, you and I both know that it depends on a lot more than just the temperature. I expect that the milder weather to actually destroy or at least complicate the life for a lot of gardeners in Canada.
