I recognize two ways the D's are bad on liberty. One is freedom of speech in that they find it OK to stifle or simply refuse to hear what they broadly consider hate speech. They are more in line with what other countries (like Germany as discussed recently) do wrt speech. Mostly they're just doing it informally, though; they are not seriously acting to impose their posture by law. The other is that they support positive rights, which, of course, infringe on the negative rights of others.

Two is puny compared to the pile on the R side.

I strongly disagree that Trump has improved the situation on the R side. His arrival on the scene makes the R side even more intolerant of religious conscience for other than conservative Christians; he is utterly and blatantly hostile to freedom of the press; wrt freedom of speech, he wants unfavorable mention of him treated as libel/slander and demonstrators silenced, he bullies people into not speaking their minds through Twitter assault; he advocates investigation and jailing of opponents; he does not recognize the equal rights of minorities and other unfavored groups; he has shown himself cavalier about the the rights of others situationally such as the rights of whistle-blowers. I'm probably missing something amidst the blizzard.

Mixed bag, maybe, but not evenly weighted.
