>>His arrival on the scene makes the R side even more intolerant of religious conscience for other than conservative Christians; he is utterly and blatantly hostile to freedom of the press; wrt freedom of speech, he wants unfavorable mention of him treated as libel/slander and demonstrators silenced, he bullies people into not speaking their minds through Twitter assault; he advocates investigation and jailing of opponents; he does not recognize the equal rights of minorities and other unfavored groups; he has shown himself cavalier about the the rights of others situationally such as the rights of whistle-blowers. I'm probably missing something amidst the blizzard.
I am not a conservative Christian and while he does cater to them for their votes, I don’t know of any president who hasn’t. But he is not hostile to Jews as some other presidents have been. And he hasn’t been offensive with religious hypocrisy like others. I would say WYSIWYG, for the most part, Which I take no issue with. I don’t really understand the criticism, I guess.
He is certainly far less hostile to a free media than Obama was, as well. But he doesn’t feel compelled to stand and take the lies from them, either. And they are liars and false provocateurs. When the media have been fair he has pointed it out. But it is unreasonable to think Trump should accommodate CNN. OTOH, he has on multiple occasions given a hostile NYT access for extended interviews. Same with some TV networks.
My take on the media is a little different in that I think taking well deserved jabs at them is probably promoting the free press. No president you know of has faced the kind of media hostility Trump has, yet he has not cut off access or killed FOIA the way Obama did.
Your criticism on the media looks biased to me.
He has not advocated arrest or jailing of any opponent I know of. But he does play hardball when attacked. That’s fine. People can sort this out.
It you want to go after his following as ignorant about some basic American rights, I am there with you. But I see farm more of that emanating from the Left than I do the Right.
I don’t really have any metrics but the Left is a far greater threat to personal freedom than Trump could ever be. And that’s coming from a person who lost a business he spent 25 years building because of ACA (and I’m one of many). I spoke with a customer yesterday who, since ACA, has had to add two full time people to comply with Medicare's idiotic meaningful use requirements, reporting stupid crap like the percentage of patients who downloaded medical records when referred to another office. Seriously. The bureaucracy increase in physician healthcare is utterly insane.
This kind of interference in the business of ordinary people is absolutely inconsistent with any kind of freedom or liberty I’ve ever heard of. |
