Have you noticed the extent of the homeless problem in America? The huge number of homeless children?
We have enough wealth that we should not have any homeless, and all people should be able to access health care and a good education.
I can't believe I have to tell you this! Millions of people struggle every day to meet their bills and worry about how to pay for a doctor or buy their kids clothes for school, or even feed them.
The # one reason for bankruptcy is medical bills. There should not by any bankruptcy for that.
And you cannot compare our poverty level with other nations, or our wealth in the 1930's. You must compare it relative to our wealth today.

"You always struggle with the big picture" The big picture....
Millions of Americans as destitute as the world’s poorest? Don’t believe it. vox.com
The Poorest 20% of Americans Are Richer on Average Than Most European Nations The privilege of living in the US affords poor people more material resources than the averages for most of the world’s richest nations. fee.org
= The big picture is that not many feel your resentment (Sam's apt word, I believe) of the rich. There's not much pain when the unemployment level is below 4, and all the old farts get SS and Medicare.
" Income inequality is as bad as it was in the 1930's." The standard of living for those on the bottom is close to what the professional class had during the '30's. Most people who have food, shelter, whatever level of healthcare we provide, transportation, access to a community college, and something to keep them entertained (a free Obamaphone with internet access, and maybe a TV) look at the rich, and say, "I want to be like them", not "I want them to be like me". When the people at the bottom have enuf, it doesn't matter how much the people at the top have. |
