I've never had any allergies to anything and I've traveled and eaten freely all over the world, including some pretty exotic places - never a problem. This past summer I developed a slew of sever allergies. The kind that would wake me up in middle of the night. The symptoms varied but were always sever. They included:

  • Rash
  • Hives
  • Swollen lips
  • Blisters all over my arms
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Drop in blood pressure
  • Dizziness

It got bad enough that some times I had more than one attack during a week. They'd always appear during the evening/night and disappear within 24hrs. I tried hard to figure out what food I am allergic to to no avail. Sometimes I was able to cause an allergic reaction but then the same ingredients did not cause a problem on other days.

The allergist I saw (too young and arrogant) declared that I have chronic something or another that randomly attacks - she doesn't know what causes it, why I never had it before, or how to fix it.

And then they disappeared. I have not had any issues since mid October.

Last night I had a talk with a friend of mine. She pointed me news sites about tick born allergies, including some who develop allergy to red meat after being bitten by a tick. I think it is more likely that my allergies were caused by aphids that my dog carried and disappeared once the whether got cold than a condition that less than 3 in 1000 men have.

Just something to keep in mind.
